On September 25, 2024, Professor Joel Savarino from the Institute of Geosciences and Environment (IGE), French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), delivered a seminar at the Basic Science Center on "Atmospheric Chemistry and Isotope Geochemistry of NOx in Various Environments." The seminar was part of the 2024 Academic Workshop series and was hosted by Researcher Zhao Weixiong at the Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics.

Professor Savarino presented his latest research on nitrogen oxides (NOx) and their role in atmospheric processes. NOx, a key air pollutant and a regulator of ozone production, has been studied for over 60 years, yet many mechanisms governing its behavior remain unresolved. In his talk, Savarino provided insights into his team's research, which spans laboratory experiments, field observations, and isotope studies in environments ranging from temperate to polar regions, as well as the interaction between atmospheric processes and ice core records.

With over 200 published papers, including in prestigious journals such as Nature, Science, and PNAS, and more than 8,000 citations, Professor Savarino is at the forefront of stable isotope applications in climate and environmental pollution research.
